Enabling Threat Protection Pro™ on older macOS versions

Introduction

This article explains how to set up Threat Protection Pro™ on macOS Ventura, Sonoma, and Monterey.

Before you start

Here’s what to do

For macOS Ventura and Sonoma

  1. Open the NordVPN app and click the shield icon in the left bar.
  2. Click "Set up" in the "Overview" tab.
  3. Click "Set up Set up Threat Protection Pro™".
  4. Click "System settings > Privacy & security" and allow the NordVPN application to load. Once done, return to the NordVPN app and click "Continue".
  5. In the "System Settings" window, go to "Privacy & Security" and click "Allow" next to the message about system software from NordVPN being blocked.
  6. Enter your computer's password or use Touch ID and click "Update settings".
  7. Return to the NordVPN app and click "Continue".
  8. Click "Add proxy configurations", then click "Allow" in the pop-up window.
  9. If prompted, restart your web browsers to enable full protection.
  10. Click "Continue" in the NordVPN app.
  11. Go to "System settings > Privacy & security > Full disk access" and click the toggle switch next to "NordVPN Threat Protection Pro™".

For macOS Monterey

  1. Open the NordVPN app and click the shield icon in the left bar.
  2. Click "Set up Set up Threat Protection Pro™".
  3. Click the button to go to "System settings > Privacy & security". Once the settings load, return to the NordVPN app and click "Next".
  4. Click "Add proxy configurations", then click "Allow" in the pop-up window. Return to the NordVPN app and click "Next".
  5. If prompted, restart your web browsers to enable full protection.
  6. Click "Next" in the NordVPN app.
  7. Go to "System preferences > Security & privacy > Privacy", select "Full Disk Access".
  8. Check the box for "NordVPN Threat Protection Pro™".

To enable the cloud-based scanner

  1. Click the shield icon in the left bar of NordVPN app.
  2. Click the arrow next to "Anti-malware" tab and click "Turn on".
  3. Click the arrow icon next to "Show advanced settings".
  4. Click the toggle switch to enable the "Cloud-based threat scanner".

Additional tips

  • If prompted, make sure to restart your browsers to enable ad and tracker blocking.
