Enabling Threat Protection Pro™ on macOS

Introduction

This article explains how to set up and enable the Threat Protection Pro™ feature on macOS. This feature automatically blocks ads, trackers, and malicious URLs and is only available with selected NordVPN plans. Learn more about NordVPN Threat Protection Pro™.

Before you start

  • Threat Protection Pro™ is only available with selected NordVPN plans.
  • These instructions are for the latest versions of macOS. If you are using an older version of macOS, check out enabling Threat Protection Pro™ on older macOS versions.
  • You will need your computer's password to complete the setup.

Here’s what to do

  1. Open the NordVPN app and click the shield icon on the left side of the NordVPN application.
  2. Click the "Set up Threat Protection Pro™" button.
  3. When the pop-up message appears, click "Open System Settings".
  4. In the System Settings window, click the toggle switch next to "NordVPN".
  5. Enter your computer's password and click "OK".
  6. Click "Continue" in the NordVPN app.
  7. Click "Add Proxy Configurations".
  8. Click "Allow" to confirm.
  9. When the next pop-up message appears, enter your computer's password and click "Update Settings".
  10. Click "Continue".
  11. Check the box to enable the cloud-based threat scanner.
  12. Click the button to go to "System Settings > Privacy & Security > Full Disk Access":



    NOTE: If you are using macOS Monterey or an older version, go to "Security & Privacy", select "Full Disk Access" in the left panel, and click the lock icon at the bottom.
  13. Click the toggle switch to enable "NordVPN Threat Protection Pro™".
  14. Enter your computer's password or use Touch ID to confirm.
  15. Click the "Browsers restarted" button in the NordVPN app to complete the setup.
