This guide covers common issues related to Threat Protection Pro™ on macOS and how to solve them.
Issues and troubleshooting steps
"Browser protection is off" pop-up
To resolve it, you need to provide the NordVPN app with the permissions needed:
- In the pop-up window, click "Restore protection."
- Next to the "Your browsing protection is disabled" message, click “Turn on.”
“Anti-malware protection is off” pop-up
To resolve it, you need to provide the NordVPN app with the permissions needed:
- In the pop-up window, click "Restore protection."
- You will be prompted to open system settings.
- Go to “System Settings > Privacy & Security > Full Disk Access.”
- Find "NordVPN Threat Protection Pro™" in the list and enable the toggle switch next to it.
“We couldn’t start Threat Protection Pro™” error
- Click the "Try again" button in the error message.
- If that fails, log out of the app and then log back in.
- Try reinstalling the NordVPN app on your macOS device. For reference, see our article on installing the NordVPN application on macOS.
Threat Protection Pro™ blocks a website
Threat Protection blocks websites identified as potential threats for your safety. Occasionally, it may flag a safe site by mistake.
- On the block page, find and click the "Unblock" button.
- This will add the site to your allowlist and let you proceed without needing to turn off the entire feature.
A website crashes
- Temporarily pause the Threat Protection Pro™ feature:
- Click the shield icon on the left side of the NordVPN application.
- Click “Pause” and select the time you’d like the feature to be paused for.
- If the website works by pausing the Threat Protection Pro™, please report it using the support center issue reporting form.
Additional tips
- Check if you are using the latest version of the NordVPN app:
- Open the NordVPN app.
- Click the profile (person) icon in the top-right corner of the NordVPN app.
- Click "Settings."
- If the app is outdated, a banner showing that a new version is available will appear. Click the “Update now” button.
