Linux error: 'Permission denied accessing /run/nordvpn/nordvpnd.sock'

If you're encountering an issue similar to what you see in the header, here's what you need to do: 

  1. Run the following command in the terminal:
    sudo usermod -aG nordvpn $USER
  2. Restart your device.

If you get an error “Whoops! /run/nordvpn/nordvpnd.sock not found,” run the following commands until the issue is fixed:

sudo systemctl restart nordvpnd
sudo systemctl start nordvpnd
sudo systemctl enable nordvpnd

If the issue persists, follow the troubleshooting steps below:

  1. Restart your device.
  2. Reset the app.
  3. Reinstall the NordVPN app for Linux.
  4. Check your firewall settings.
  5. Connect manually.

NOTE: We offer .deb and .rpm packages compatible with Debian 11 or newer, Ubuntu 20.04 or newer, Raspberry PI OS, Linux Mint 21 or newer, and Fedora 32 or newer. Moreover, the GNOME and KDE desktop environments have been tested to work without issues.
