Setting up TP-Link with NordVPN

NordVPN is compatible with TP-Link routers when set up using OpenVPN. Follow these step-by-step instructions to set up a VPN connection to a NordVPN server.

How to set up a VPN on a TP-Link router

  1. Open your browser and type in one of the following IP addresses to access your TP-Link router’s control panel:

    192.168.0.1

    or

    192.168.1.1

  2. Go to the “Advanced” tab and select the “VPN client” section.

  3. Enable the “VPN client” option and save the changes that you have made.

  4. In the “Server list” section, click “Add” to configure a new profile.

  5. In the “Add profile” pop-up window, fill in the fields as follows:

    Description: NordVPN (or any other name that you like)
    VPN type: OpenVPN
    Username: your NordVPN service username
    Password: your NordVPN service password
     
  6. You can find your NordVPN service username and password in the Nord Account dashboard. Copy the username and password by clicking on the “Copy” button next to them.The Nord Account dashboard contains useful information, like your NordVPN service credentials
  7. Paste the copied credentials into the “Add profile” window.

  8. Download the necessary OpenVPN client configuration files using our recommended server utility.

  9. Once you have downloaded the files, go back to the control panel of your router and click “Browse” in the “Add profile” window.

  10. Navigate to the OpenVPN configuration file that you have just downloaded and click “Open.”

  11. Click “Save” to confirm the configured settings.

  12. In the “Server list,” enable the newly created NordVPN connection.
  13. In the “Device list” section, click on the “Add” button.

  14. Choose the devices that you wish to use the VPN connection and click “OK.”
    The checkmark indicates that the chosen device will be able to use the VPN connection
  15. Toggle “VPN access” for the added devices.

  16. The devices added to the “Device list” will use your VPN connection. To add new devices to the list, simply repeat steps 13 to 15 of this guide.
