Introduction
In this article, you will learn why NordVPN removed the separate P2P server section from the app (starting with NordVPN app version 9.0.0 for iOS and Android, version 8.0.0 for Windows, and 10.0.0 for macOS) and understand how all standard NordVPN servers now support peer-to-peer (P2P) activities.
P2P Support on standard NordVPN Servers
All standard NordVPN servers now support P2P activities, including gaming and other peer-to-peer applications. This means you no longer need to connect to a dedicated P2P server - any standard server will work for P2P traffic. By adding P2P support across all of our servers, NordVPN simplifies the user experience while maintaining full P2P capability.
Why did NordVPN remove the separate P2P servers section?
Previously, NordVPN displayed both Standard and P2P servers as separate options in the app. This created confusion among users who saw their app showing simultaneous connections to both Standard and P2P servers. Many customers were unclear about whether they needed to take additional steps to use P2P, and some felt frustrated by the redundancy and apparent lack of clarity.
After listening to customer feedback, NordVPN made the decision to integrate P2P support directly into all servers. This eliminated the confusing dual-server display and gave users a simpler, more intuitive app experience.
Do I still get P2P support if I connect to a Standard server?
Yes, absolutely. Since all NordVPN servers support P2P traffic, connecting to any standard server enables full P2P capability. You no longer need to look for or select a dedicated P2P server - simply connect to any available server, and you can game or use other P2P applications immediately.
NOTE: While all servers support P2P traffic, you should always respect local laws and only use P2P features in compliance with your jurisdiction's regulations and copyright laws.
What changed in my NordVPN app?
The P2P server category has been removed from the server list. The previous distinction between Standard and P2P servers no longer exists because all servers now function identically in terms of P2P support. This streamlining reduces visual clutter and eliminates the confusion that arose from the old dual-server approach.
