My internet disconnects when using a VPN on iOS

Problem

Your iOS device can’t access the internet when you use NordVPN.

Common symptoms

  • Your browser is not loading any websites, giving errors such as “This site can’t be reached.”
  • The NordVPN app is not loading the Internet Service Provider (ISP) or Internet Protocol (IP) address information.
  • Applications show “No Network” or “You’re Offline” messages.

Troubleshooting steps

NOTE: After each step, check your internet connection by opening your browser in incognito mode and trying to load any page.

  • Visit the App Store to see if you are using the latest version of the NordVPN app.
  • If you used the “Secure my connection” button to connect to the VPN, try manually selecting and connecting to several specific countries instead.
  • Change the VPN protocol:
     
    1. Open the NordVPN app.
    2. Tap on the profile icon at the bottom-right.
    3. Open “Settings” by tapping the icon in the upper-right corner.
    4. Tap “Protocolin the “VPN Connection” section.
    5. Try connecting with all available protocols.
       
  • If you have additional VPNs, turn them off.
  • Restart the app:
     
    1. Swipe up from the bottom middle of your screen.
    2. Swipe up on the NordVPN app so it fully closes.
    3. Relaunch NordVPN and try connecting again.
       
  • Temporarily turn off Threat Protection to see if it’s causing issues:
     
    1. Tap the profile icon at the bottom right of the NordVPN app.
    2. Tap the shield icon on the top right side.
    3. Tap “Turn on Threat Protection.”
    4. Tap “Turn off” in the top right corner.
       
  • Disable post-quantum encryption:
     
    1. Open the NordVPN app.
    2. Tap on the profile icon at the bottom right.
    3. Open Settings by tapping the icon in the upper-right corner.
    4. Locate the “VPN connection” section and toggle the “Post-quantum encryption” off.
       
  • Reset the VPN profile:
     
    1. Open the NordVPN app.
    2. Tap the profile icon at the bottom right.
    3. Open “Settings” by tapping the icon in the upper-right corner.
    4. Tap “Reset VPN Profile.”
    5. Tap “Continue.”
    6. Tap “Got it.”
       
  • Restart your device.
  • Reset your network settings:
    NOTE: These steps will also reset Wi-Fi networks, passwords, and the VPN or APN settings you’ve used.
     
    1. Open “Settings” on your device.
    2. Tap “General.”
    3. Tap “Transfer or Reset iPhone” at the bottom of the list.
    4. Tap “Reset.”
    5. Tap “Reset Network Settings” and enter your passcode.
    6. Restart your device.

Additional tips

  • Restart your router.
  • Check if the issue occurs on other devices connected to the same network. If it does, try switching to a different network.
  • In case nothing helps, get the errors from the VPN connection logs from your iOS device and tap the "Chat with support" or "Email us" buttons to contact our customer support, who will help you out.
