Problem
You can’t connect to a VPN server on NordVPN’s browser extensions.
Common symptoms
- The NordVPN extension is stuck on the “Assigning IP address” status.
Troubleshooting steps
NOTE: Make sure to check your connection after each step.
- If you used the “Quick Connect” button to connect to the VPN, try manually selecting and connecting to several specific countries instead.
- Make sure that you are not using the NordVPN desktop app and the NordVPN extension at the same time.
- Clear your browser cache.
- Reinstall the extension by following these steps:
- First, backup your settings by following these steps:
- Click the jigsaw piece icon at the upper-right corner of your browser to access the “Extensions” tab.
- Click the NordVPN icon to open the NordVPN extension.
- Click the cogwheel icon at the bottom-right to open Settings.
- Click “General.”
- Click “Export settings” and download the file to your device.
- Remove the NordVPN extension from your browser:
- Click the jigsaw piece icon at the upper-right corner of your browser to access the “Extensions” tab.
- Click the three dots next to NordVPN.
- Select “Remove from browser.”
- Click on “Remove.”
- Restart your browser.
- Download and install the NordVPN extension from your browser’s extension marketplace.
- Import your settings:
- After logging into your NordVPN account, click the cogwheel icon at the bottom right to open Settings.
- Click “General.”
- Click “Import settings.”
- Select the file you downloaded when you backed up your settings in step 1.
- First, backup your settings by following these steps:
- Try using the NordVPN extension on a different browser.
Additional tips
- Check your internet connection without connecting to the VPN.
- Check if the issue persists on other devices.
- Restart your device.
