Problem
You can’t connect to your dedicated IP server through NordVPN’s macOS app.
Common symptoms
- The app is stuck on the “Connecting” status.
Troubleshooting steps
NOTE: Due to reduced service accessibility, you may have trouble getting your dedicated IP to work when connecting from countries with internet restrictions.
- Check your inbox for an email about temporary dedicated IP server maintenance.
- If the issue appeared after several connection attempts, wait a few minutes before connecting again.
- See if you can connect to regular NordVPN servers by clicking “Secure my connection.”
- Change the VPN protocol:
- Open the NordVPN app and click the gear icon in the lower-left corner to enter the “Settings” menu.
- Click “General.”
- Find the “VPN Protocol” section.
- Try connecting with all available protocols.
- If you have an antivirus, ensure NordVPN is on the exclusions list.
- Reapply the VPN configuration settings on macOS:
- Click the Apple icon in the upper-left corner of your screen.
- Click “System Settings.”
- Go to the “VPN” tab and click the information icon (i) next to NordVPN.
- You will get a pop-up about modifying system settings. Approve it, click the “Remove Configuration” button, and click “Remove” once more to confirm.
- Close the NordVPN app by pressing Command + Q on the keyboard.
- Re-open the NordVPN app and click the “Secure my connection” button.

If a pop-up appears, allow the NordVPN app to add VPN configurations.

Delete and reinstall NordVPN using the version provided on our website:
- Open the Finder app—the happy face icon should be in the Dock at the bottom of your screen.
- On the left, find the “Applications” folder, and click on it.
- Right-click the NordVPN app icon and select the “Move to Bin” option.NOTE: You can also empty the Bin to uninstall NordVPN fully, but emptying the trash doesn't need to be done to reinstall NordVPN, especially if you have any files in the trash bin you might want to keep.
- Restart your computer.
- Install NordVPN from our website.
