My VPN keeps disconnecting on Android TV

Problem

The NordVPN app keeps disconnecting on your Android TV device.

Common symptoms

  • The status changes to “Connecting” in the NordVPN app.

Troubleshooting steps

NOTE: Make sure to check your connection after each step.

  • If you used the “Secure my connection” button to connect to the VPN, try manually selecting and connecting to several specific countries instead.
  • Change the VPN protocol:

    1. Scroll down to the cogwheel icon in the NordVPN app and select it to access the settings.
    2. Scroll down to “App settings” and select “Protocol.”
    3. Try connecting with all available protocols.

  • Reset your network settings:
NOTE: This also resets Wi-Fi networks and passwords, and VPN or APN settings you’ve used before:

    1. Open up “Settings” on your device.
    2. Scroll down to “Network and Internet” and make sure the Wi-Fi toggle is on.
    3. Select “Wi-Fi” and then select “Forget Network.”
    4. Restart your device and reconnect to the network.

  • Reinstall the application:

    1. Open up “Settings” on your device.
    2. Select “Applications.”
    3. Select “Manage Installed Applications.”
    4. Find NordVPN and select “Uninstall.”
    5. After it uninstalls, restart your Android box and download NordVPN from the Google Store or the Amazon Store if you have a FireTV device.

Additional tips

  • Check your internet connection without connecting to the VPN.
  • Check if you have other VPNs running on your device.
  • Check if the issue occurs on other devices connected to the same network. If it does, try switching to a different network.
  • Restart your device.
