My VPN keeps disconnecting on Android

Problem

The NordVPN app keeps disconnecting on your Android device.

Common symptoms

  • The status changes to “Connecting” in the NordVPN app.

Troubleshooting steps

NOTE: Make sure to check your connection after each step.

  • Change the VPN protocol:

    1. Tap the profile icon at the bottom-right corner of the NordVPN app.
    2. Scroll down and tapSettings.”
    3. Tap “VPN protocol.”
    4. Try connecting with all available protocols.

  • Disable post-quantum encryption:

    1. Tap the profile icon at the bottom-right corner of the NordVPN app.
    2. Scroll down and tapSettings.”
    3. Toggle the “Post-quantum encryption” off.
  • Connect to an obfuscated server.
  • Reset your network settings:
    NOTE: This also resets Wi-Fi networks and passwords, VPN, and APN settings you’ve used before.

    1. Open “Settings” on your device.
    2. Tap “Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth” (or “Reset network settings”).
    3. Tap the “Reset settings” button.
    4. Restart your device.

  • Uninstall NordVPN and install the version from our website:

    1. Open “Settings” on your device.
    2. Tap “Apps.”
    3. Tap “NordVPN.”
    4. Tap the trash bin at the bottom of your screen.
    5. After NordVPN is uninstalled, restart your phone.
    6. Install NordVPN from this link — tap the “Get APK version” button.

Additional tips

  • Check your internet connection without connecting to the VPN.
  • If you have an antivirus, ensure NordVPN is on the exclusions list.
  • Check if you have other VPNs running on your device.
  • Check if the issue occurs on other devices connected to the same network. If it does, try switching to a different network.
  • Restart your device.
