Problem
You can’t connect to a VPN server on NordVPN’s Android app.
Common symptoms
- The NordVPN app displays the “It’s taking a bit longer than usual” or “Hold on - we’re trying to connect” prompt.
Troubleshooting steps
NOTE: Make sure to check your connection after each step.
- If you used the “Quick Connect” button to connect to the VPN, try manually selecting and connecting to several specific countries instead.
- Change the VPN protocol:
- Open the NordVPN app and tap the profile icon at the bottom-right corner.
- Scroll down and tap “Settings.”
- Tap “VPN protocol.”
- Try connecting with all available protocols.
- Disable post-quantum encryption:
- Open the NordVPN app and tap the profile icon in the bottom-right corner.
- Scroll down and tap “Settings.”
- Toggle the “Post-quantum encryption” off.
- Disable Meshnet:
- Open the NordVPN app and tap the profile icon in the bottom-right corner.
- Scroll down and find “Meshnet”.
- Tap the toggle to disable Meshnet.

Reset your network settings:
NOTE: This also resets Wi-Fi networks and passwords, VPN, and APN settings you’ve used before.
- Open “Settings” on your device.
- Tap “Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth” (or “Reset network settings”).
- Tap the “Reset settings” button.
- Restart your device.
- Uninstall NordVPN and install the version from our website:
- Open “Settings” on your device.
- Tap “Apps.”
- Tap “NordVPN.”
- Tap the trash bin at the bottom of your screen.
- After NordVPN is uninstalled, restart your phone.
- Install NordVPN from this link by tapping the “Get APK version” button.
- Alternate internet connection types, for example, if you used mobile data, try Wi-Fi.
- Disable IPv6 (only on LTE).
Additional tips
- Check if the issue persists on a different device.
- Make sure that your internet connection is active.
