Proxy setup on Chrome

Note: you don't have to set up a proxy if you are already connected on the NordVPN app.

  1. Open Google Chrome.

  2. Click on the three-dot icon in the top-right corner of the window and in the dropdown menu select Settings.

  3. When the Settings window opens, type proxy in the Search bar at the top of the page and click Open your computer’s proxy settings.

  4. A new window will pop up. Go to the Connections tab and click on LAN settings.

  5. In the window that opens, check the following box: Use a proxy server for your LAN (These settings will not apply to dial-up or VPN connections). For Address enter one of NordVPN’s servers addresses. In the Address field, enter the address of one of NordVPN’s servers. You can find the best Proxy server for you using our server picker. In the server picker, click Show advanced options, press Select security protocol, and choose HTTP Proxy to see the recommended server.

  6. In the Port field, enter 80. Note: To ensure full privacy, do NOT check the Bypass proxy server for local addresses box.

  7. Press OK in both the current and previous windows.
  8. When you try to access a website, you will be prompted to enter a username and password. Enter your NordVPN login credentials and press Sign in.

You can find your NordVPN service credentials in the Nord Account dashboard. Copy the credentials using the Copy buttons on the right.

Congratulations! You have successfully configured your Google Chrome settings.

If you want to check whether it works, go to our What is my IP page, where you will see the IP address of your chosen server.

As generating and remembering strong and secure passwords is not an easy task, we recommend downloading a free password manager, like NordPass. It generates secure passwords for you and stores them safely, letting you avoid time-wasting password resets in the future.

NordPass offers native apps for Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS, so you can reach your passwords whenever and wherever you need them, even offline.
