Introduction
In this article, you'll learn how to manually configure a NordVPN proxy server directly within qBittorrent.
Before you start
- You will need your username and password for this setup, which are different from your regular login credentials. You can find them in your Nord Account dashboard by following this link.
- You will need to choose a proxy server to connect to. Keep the list in the steps below handy.
- This setup must be used in accordance with the NordVPN Terms of Service and should not be used to bypass copyright regulations.
Here's what to do
- Open qBittorrent.
- In the top menu bar, click "Tools."
- Click "Options" (or press Alt + O.)
- From the menu on the left, click "Connection."
- Find the "Proxy Server" section and fill in the following details:
- Type: SOCKS5
- Host: Choose one of the following server addresses:
nl.socks.nordhold.net
se.socks.nordhold.net
us.socks.nordhold.net
amsterdam.nl.socks.nordhold.net
atlanta.us.socks.nordhold.net
chicago.us.socks.nordhold.net
dallas.us.socks.nordhold.net
los-angeles.us.socks.nordhold.net
new-york.us.socks.nordhold.net
phoenix.us.socks.nordhold.net
san-francisco.us.socks.nordhold.net
stockholm.se.socks.nordhold.net
- Port: 1080
- Check the "Use proxy for peer connections" box.
- Check the "Authentication" box.
- Enter your NordVPN service username and password (the ones you found in the "Before you start" step).
- Click "Apply."
- Click "OK."
Additional tips
- Verify your connection is working. To make sure your downloads are being routed through the proxy, you can use a torrent IP address checker:
- Go to ipleak.net
- Scroll to the "Torrent Address detection" section and click "Activate."
- Click "this Magnet Link."
- A new window will show up, prompting you to open qBittorrent. Select "Open qBittorrent." Important: keep ipleak.net open.
- Once opened, click "OK" to add the torrent.
- Go back to the ipleak.net page to verify the connection. The IP address in the "Torrent Address detection" section should now be your NordVPN server's IP (click "Refresh" if needed), confirming that your setup is working and your traffic is secure.
