Introduction
The Cookie banner hider, a feature of Scam, phishing, and malware protection, automatically removes the repetitive cookie warnings and consent pop-ups that appear on nearly every website you visit. In this article, you will learn what the feature does and how it works. When a website genuinely needs cookies to function properly, it accepts the necessary cookies for you without displaying the banner.
Requirements
Ensure that you have an active NordVPN Plus or Ultimate subscription and that you have installed the NordVPN application on your Windows or macOS device.
Why isn't the Cookie banner hider enabled by default?
You must turn on the feature manually, as it does not activate automatically. Hiding cookie banners affects how you make choices about cookies, so this requires a clear, informed decision on your part, including an understanding of what the feature does and its limitations.
Here's what to do
- Open the NordVPN app.
- Click the shield icon on the left side of the NordVPN application to open the Scam, phishing, and malware protection tab.
- Open Advanced settings, then scroll to the Ad and tracker blocker section.
- Enable the Cookie banner hider by clicking the toggle:
How does the Cookie banner hider work?
- Suppresses cookie banners – As soon as you visit a website, the feature automatically hides the consent pop-up so you don't have to face yet another cookie window.
- Handles necessary cookies – When a site requires cookies to work correctly, the feature automatically permits the necessary cookies to keep core functionality (such as logins and shopping carts) working.
- Responds intelligently to each banner – If a "Reject all" option is available, the feature selects it automatically before hiding the banner. If the website offers only "Accept all," the feature simply hides the banner without clicking any buttons.
- Zero-friction experience – You can reach critical website features straight away, without manual cookie configuration on every page.
NOTE: Hiding a cookie banner is not the same as rejecting cookies. Depending on the website and your region, some cookies or tracking may remain active even when the feature does not show the banner. This feature removes the annoyance of repetitive pop-ups rather than guaranteeing the blockage of all tracking. Because developers build websites differently, the feature may occasionally affect how a site displays or behaves (for example, scrolling not working or certain buttons missing), and you may still see some cookie banners on some sites. We are continuously improving detection and compatibility.
