Introduction
In this article, you will learn how to generate and use a Nord Account token to set up NordVPN on your router. Using a manual token is the most effective way to establish a secure connection on devices that do not support a graphical user interface, ensuring your entire home network stays protected.
NOTE: This tutorial is only for routers that have NordVPN configuration supported out of the box. For regular routers, such as DD-WRT, older AsusWRT, or OpenWRT, we recommend checking our website on how set up a router with NordVPN.
Here's what to do
Generate your NordVPN token
- Log in to Nord Account.
- On the left side, click "NordVPN."
- Scroll down to the "Advanced settings" tab and click "Get access token."
- Verify your identity by entering the verification code sent to your registered email address.
- Click on the "Generate new token" tab.
- Choose between two options:
- Temporary token: Expires after 30 days.
- Non-expiring token: Recommended for routers to ensure a persistent connection. We strongly recommend enabling Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) if you choose this.
- Click "Generate token."
- Copy the token number immediately.
NOTE: The token is only shown once. If you close the window before copying it, you will need to generate a new one.
Use the token for router configuration
- Open your router's configuration interface in a web browser.
- Locate the VPN client settings (usually under Advanced Settings or VPN).
- When prompted for credentials during the NordVPN VPN server setup, use the generated token as within the specific token field provided by your router's firmware.
Additional tips
- If you lose your token or suspect it has been compromised, return to the Nord Account dashboard and click "Revoke" to invalidate it.
