Email protection by Threat Protection Pro™

Introduction

This article introduces Email protection, a feature of Threat Protection Pro™ designed to add an extra layer of security to your inbox. It acts as an early warning system, helping you identify and avoid dangerous links hidden in your emails before you can click on them.

How does the email protection work?

  • Link analysis – Threat Protection Pro™ email protection automatically scans all links found within your Gmail and Yahoo emails.
  • Threat check – Each link is checked against a database of known threats to identify any association with phishing, scams, or other malicious activities.
  • Warning – A red warning banner is displayed on emails that contain at least one potentially dangerous link. Conversely, if all links are confirmed to be safe, no banner will appear on the email.

Requirements

Here's what to do

  1. Open the NordVPN app.
  2. Click the shield icon on the left side of the NordVPN application to open the Threat Protection Pro™ section.
  3. Click "Advanced browsing protection."
  4. Toggle the "Email protection" feature to the on position.

Additional tips

  • If you had a Gmail or Yahoo tab open in your browser before you enabled Threat Protection Pro™, the feature may not work right away. To fix this, simply refresh the email provider's website or restart your browser.
  • Please note that this feature protects you when using Gmail and Yahoo directly in a web browser. The safety banners will not appear in standalone desktop email applications.
  • This feature exclusively scans the links within an email for known threats. It does not read, store, or scan the content of your emails, ensuring your privacy is always respected.
