I can't install or update the NordVPN app on a mobile device

Problem

You encounter a problem during the NordVPN mobile app installation or update process.

Common symptoms

  • The installation does not start.
  • You encounter an error message like “Installation failed” or “Something went wrong” during installation.
  • The installation starts but never finishes.
  • The update starts but fails to overwrite the existing version.

Troubleshooting steps

NOTE: Check if the issue has been resolved after each step.

  • Check if your operating system supports the NordVPN app.
  • Check if there are any updates for your mobile device’s operating system.
     
    • Android:
       
      1. Open the “Settings” app.
      2. Scroll down and tap “System” or “About phone.”
      3. Tap “System update” or “Software update.”
      4. If an update is available, tap “Download and install.”
      5. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update.
         
    • iOS:
       
      1. Open the “Settings” app.
      2. Tap “General.”
      3. Tap “Software Update.”
      4. If an update is available, tap “Download and Install.”
      5. Enter your passcode if prompted
      6. Follow the instructions to complete the update.
         
  • If you’ve downloaded the NordVPN app to your Android device from the Google Play Store, try installing the version from our website instead.
  • If you’ve downloaded the NordVPN app to your Android device from our website, try installing it from the Google Play Store.
  • Temporarily turn off or uninstall your antivirus to see if it is blocking or interfering with the NordVPN app.
  • Reinstall the NordVPN app:
     
    • Android:
       
      1. Open “Settings” on your device.
      2. Tap “Apps.”
      3. Tap “NordVPN.”
      4. Tap the trash bin at the bottom of your screen.
      5. After uninstalling NordVPN, restart your phone.
      6. Click this link and tap “Get APK version” to install NordVPN.
         
    • iOS:
       
      1. Locate the NordVPN app on your home screen.
      2. Tap and hold the NordVPN app icon until a menu appears or the icons start jiggling.
      3. Tap “Remove App” and select “Delete App” to confirm.
      4. Restart your phone.
      5. Install NordVPN from the App Store again.
