The NordVPN application is using too many system resources on Linux

Problem

The NordVPN app is causing performance issues on your Linux device.

Common symptoms

  • Your computer slows down when NordVPN is on.
  • The installed resource manager shows NordVPN using more than 50% of RAM or CPU.

Troubleshooting steps

  • Restart your computer.
  • Temporarily turn off Threat Protection to see if it's causing issues:
     
    1. Click the “Settings” button on the left side of the application.
    2. Click “Threat Protection.”
    3. Click the blue button if it is turned on.
       
  • Reset the application settings:
     
    1. Open the Linux terminal by pressing the “CTRL,” “ALT,” and “T” keys together.
    2. Write these commands:
       
      sudo rm /var/lib/nordvpn/data/settings.dat
      sudo rm -rf ~/.config/nordvpn

       

    3. Log back into the NordVPN application.

Additional tips

  • Check if the issue occurs on other devices connected to the same network. If it does, try switching to a different network.
