Problem
Internet connection on your macOS device is interrupted when the VPN is on.
Common symptoms
- Browsers do not load any websites and display errors such as “This site can’t be reached.”
- The NordVPN app does not display the Internet Service Provider (ISP) or Internet Protocol (IP) address information.
- Applications showing “No Network” or “You’re Offline” messages.
Troubleshooting Steps
NOTE: Disconnect from the VPN while following these steps, and make sure to check your connection after each step.
- Check if you are using the latest version of the NordVPN app:
- Click the cogwheel icon at the bottom-left of the NordVPN app.
- If the app is outdated, a banner showing that a new version is available will appear. Click the “Update now” button.
NOTE: If you downloaded the NordVPN application from the App Store, check for updates there.
- Change the VPN protocol:
- Open the NordVPN app and click the gear icon in the lower-left corner to enter the “Settings” menu.
- Click “General.”
- Try connecting with all available protocols.
- Turn off any antivirus Web Protection services or other VPNs.
- Pause “Advanced Browsing Protection” in the Threat Protection Pro™ settings:
- Click the shield icon on the left side of the NordVPN application.
- In the “Advanced Browsing Protection” section, click “Pause.”
- Reapply the VPN configuration settings on macOS:
NOTE: This step applies if you have downloaded the NordVPN application from the App Store.
- Click the Apple icon in the upper-left corner of your screen.
- Click “System Settings.”
- Go to the “VPN” tab and click the information icon (i) next to NordVPN.
- You will get a pop-up about modifying system settings. Approve it, click the “Remove Configuration” button, and then click “Remove” once more to confirm.
- Close the NordVPN app by pressing Command+Q on the keyboard.
- Re-open the NordVPN app and click the “Secure my connection” button.
- If a pop-up appears, allow the NordVPN app to add VPN configurations.
- Restart your device.
Additional tips
- Restart your router.
- Check if the issue occurs on other devices connected to the same network. If it does, try switching to a different network.
