Problem
While connected to NordVPN, you frequently encounter CAPTCHA or “verify you’re a human” tests (such as image selection to prove you’re not a robot) when browsing.
Common symptoms
- Websites regularly ask you to complete a CAPTCHA test.
- You often get asked to click on a checkmark to prove you are not a robot.
Troubleshooting steps
- Try to connect to different server locations.
- Perform a NordVPN DNS leak test. If the website does not show “Connected to NordVPN,” restart your device, connect to NordVPN, and try the leak test again.
- Temporarily disable Threat Protection features for NordVPN applications to see if they’re causing issues:
- For NordVPN Windows apps and macOS apps downloaded from the NordVPN website, disable NordVPN Threat Protection Pro™:
- Click the shield icon on the left side of the NordVPN application.
- Click “Overview” and try disabling every feature one by one to check which one is causing issues.
- For NordVPN apps on iOS and Android devices:
- Tap the shield icon at the bottom of the NordVPN app.
- Disable “Use Threat Protection.”
- For NordVPN Linux apps, macOS apps downloaded from the App Store, and browser extensions:
- Click “Settings.”
- Click “Security and Privacy.”
- Disable Threat Protection.
- For NordVPN Windows apps and macOS apps downloaded from the NordVPN website, disable NordVPN Threat Protection Pro™:
- Clear your browser cache.
- Log in to your Google account to lessen the likelihood of getting CAPTCHA prompts.
- Turn off DNS over HTTPS on Mozilla Firefox or Secure DNS on Google Chrome.
