My internet disconnects when using a VPN on Android TV

Problem

Your Android device can’t access the internet when you use NordVPN.

Common symptoms

  • The NordVPN app is not loading the Internet Service Provider (ISP) or Internet Protocol (IP) address information.
  • Applications are showing “No Network” or “You’re Offline” messages.

Troubleshooting steps

NOTE: Make sure to check your connection after each step.

  • If you used the “Secure my connection” button to connect to the VPN, try manually selecting and connecting to several specific countries instead.
  • Change the VPN protocol:

    1. Open the NordVPN app, scroll down to the cogwheel icon, and select it to access the settings.
    2. Scroll down to “App settings” and select “Protocol.”
    3. Try connecting with all available protocols.

  • Reset your network settings:
NOTE: This also resets Wi-Fi networks and passwords, and VPN or APN settings you’ve used before.

    1. Open up “Settings” on your device.
    2. Scroll down to “Network and Internet” and make sure the Wi-Fi toggle is on.
    3. Select “Wi-Fi” and then select “Forget Network.”
    4. Restart your device and reconnect to the network.

  • Reinstall the application:

    1. Open up “Settings” on your device.
    2. Select “Applications.”
    3. Select “Manage Installed Applications.”
    4. Find NordVPN and select “Uninstall.”
    5. After it uninstalls, restart your Android box and download NordVPN from the Google Store (or the Amazon Store if you have a FireTV device).

  • Restart your device.

Additional tips

  • Restart your router.
  • Check if you have other VPNs running on your computer.
  • Check if the issue occurs on other devices connected to the same network. If it does, try switching to a different network.
