Problem
You are often unexpectedly logged out of the Windows NordVPN application.
Common symptoms
- While using the NordVPN application, you frequently get logged out.
- You get logged out immediately after logging in to NordVPN.
Troubleshooting steps
- Check your email for any new messages about changed Nord Account credentials or 2FA settings. If you find any, update the NordVPN application by uninstalling it and installing it from our website.
- Change the default browser of your device:
- Click the “Start” button, then the gear icon to open “Settings.”
- Click on "Apps."
- Select "Default apps."
- Under "Web browser," click the current default browser (such as Microsoft Edge).

Choose the browser you want from the list of installed browsers (such as Google Chrome).
- If you have an antivirus, ensure NordVPN is on the exclusions list.
- Reset the application settings:
- Press the “Windows” and “S” keys together on your keyboard to open Windows search.
- Enter “Diagnostics.”
- Open “NordVPN Diagnostics” and click “Yes.”
- Click “Reset app.”

Wait for the commands to finish running before the application opens.

Reset your network settings:
NOTE: This also resets Wi-Fi networks, passwords, and VPN or APN settings you’ve used before.
- Press the “Windows” and “S” keys together on your keyboard to open Windows search.
- Enter “Diagnostics.”
- Open “NordVPN Diagnostics” and click “Yes.”
- Click “Reset network.”
- Wait for the commands to finish running and restart your computer.
- Reinstall the NordVPN application by uninstalling it and downloading the newest version.
Additional tips
- Check your internet connection without connecting to the VPN.
- Wait a few minutes before trying to log in again.
- Check if the issue occurs on other devices connected to the same network. If it does, try switching to a different network.
