Problem
Your Windows device can’t access the internet when you use NordVPN.
Common symptoms
- Your browser is not loading any websites, giving errors such as “This site can’t be reached.”
- The NordVPN app is not loading the Internet Service Provider (ISP) or Internet Protocol (IP) address information.
- Applications or browsers show “No Network” or “You’re Offline” messages.
Troubleshooting Steps
NOTE: After each step, check your internet connection by opening your browser in incognito mode and trying to load any page.
- If you used the “Secure my connection” button to connect to the VPN, try manually selecting and connecting to several specific countries instead.
- Check if you are using the latest version of the NordVPN app:
- Click the cogwheel icon at the bottom left of the NordVPN app.
- If the app is outdated, a banner showing that a new version is available will appear. Click the “Update” button.
- If you have an antivirus, ensure NordVPN is on the exclusions list.
- Change the VPN protocol to “Auto (Recommended)”:
- Open the NordVPN app and click the gear icon in the lower-left corner to enter the “Settings” menu.
- Click “Connection.”
- Click “Auto (Recommended).”
- Pause “Advanced browsing protection” in the Threat Protection Pro™ settings:
- Click the shield icon on the left side of the NordVPN application.
- In the “Advanced browsing protection” section, click “Pause.”
- Restart your device.
- Reset your network settings:
NOTE: This also resets Wi-Fi networks and passwords, VPN, and APN settings you’ve used before.
- Click the "Question mark" button in the lower-left corner of the NordVPN app.
- Then, click the "Run diagnostics" button.
- Once the pop-up message appears, optionally select the checkmark boxes to include the list of installed applications and system dumps, and press "Continue".
- Afterward, select the "Reset network" option.
- Wait for the commands to finish running and restart your computer.
Additional tips
- Restart your router.
- Check if you have other VPNs running on your computer.
- Check if the issue occurs on other devices connected to the same network. If it does, try switching to a different network.
