Problem
Your internet connection is slow when connected to a VPN server on NordVPN’s Android TV app.
Common symptoms
- Your download and upload speed test results are lower than usual.
- Websites and streaming videos take longer than usual to load.
Troubleshooting steps
NOTE: Check your connection speed on speedtest.net after each step.
NOTE: It is possible to experience an increase in ping when connecting to a country far away from your physical location.
- If you used the “Secure my connection” button to connect to the VPN, try manually selecting and connecting to countries closest to your physical location instead.
- Change the VPN protocol:
- Open the NordVPN app, scroll down to the cogwheel icon, and select it to access the settings.
- Scroll down to “App settings” and select “Protocol.”
- Try connecting with all available protocols.
- Alternate the internet connection types, for example, if you used Ethernet, try Wi-Fi.
- Disable post-quantum encryption:
- Go to “Settings” by selecting the cogwheel at the top-right of your screen.
- Navigate to “Post-quantum encryption.”
- Set it to “Off.”
-
Reset your network settings:
NOTE: This also resets Wi-Fi networks and passwords, and VPN or APN settings you’ve used before.
- Open up “Settings” on your device.
- Scroll down to “Network and Internet” and make sure the Wi-Fi toggle is on.
- Select “Wi-Fi” and then select “Forget Network.”
-
Restart your device and reconnect to the network.
-
Reinstall the application:
- Open “Settings” on your device.
- Select “Applications.”
- Select “Manage Installed Applications.”
- Find NordVPN and select “Uninstall.”
- After it uninstalls, restart your Android box and download NordVPN from the Google Store or the Amazon Store (if you have a FireTV device).
Additional tips
- Check if the issue occurs on other devices connected to the same network. If it does, try switching to a different network.
- Check your internet connection without connecting to the VPN.
