NordVPN obfuscated servers disguise your VPN usage, allowing you to connect to a VPN even in highly restrictive environments. Read more on how obfuscated servers work.
While the NordVPN app allows you to connect to obfuscated servers, a manual connection can be handy if the app doesn't work on your device.
NOTE: This guide will only work on macOS devices.
Downloading NordVPN obfuscated server configuration files
To be able to set up NordVPN obfuscated servers manually, you first need to download them:
- Go to Nord Account and log in:
- Go to the NordVPN tab on the left:
- Scroll down until you see advanced settings and click Set up NordVPN manually:
- You will see a server recommendation tool. Click advanced filters:
The server type filter will become visible:
- If we have obfuscated servers for a country of your choice, you'll be able to choose that from the server type filter:
- Once you've filtered the server of your choice, click get setup configuration:
- Click download configuration files:
After these steps, the configuration files will be in your designated downloads folder, and you can then manually set up the NordVPN obfuscated servers.
Setting up NordVPN obfuscated server manually
Unfortunately, you can only manually connect to the NordVPN obfuscated servers via the Tunnelblick application on macOS.
No other device can do that because while the VPN server can disguise the packets, the VPN Client (the OpenVPN or NordVPN application you use to connect to our servers) must also obfuscate the packets. Otherwise, the connection will not work, so most routers and OpenVPN clients will not connect.
