Problem
You can’t watch YouTube TV while connected to NordVPN.
Common symptoms
- You get errors related to using a VPN.
- The streaming content doesn’t load.
Troubleshooting steps
NOTE: The NordVPN service should never be used to bypass copyright regulations. NordVPN does not promote, condone, or endorse the use of the service for such purposes. For more details, please read the NordVPN Terms of Service.
NOTE: Streaming certain live content through a mobile device requires YouTube TV to access the device’s location services (GPS). As a result, streaming YouTube TV on mobile devices running Android or iOS is not possible.
- If you want to stream YouTube TV on a laptop or desktop computer, emulate the location on your browser of the server you connected to:
- Open the developer tools by pressing F12.
- Click “Sensors.” If you do not see them, click the three dots on the top right, then “More Tools” and scroll until you see “Sensors.”
- Click on “No override” and select a predefined location. You can also create a custom location here.
- Refresh the YouTube TV website.
- Try using these servers to access YouTube TV:
Los Angeles: United States #9283-9284, #9424, #9823;
Charlotte: United States #8496-8497, #10029-10030;
Dallas: United States #8133-8134, #9898-9899;
Miami: United States #9104-9105, #9372-9373;
Phoenix: United States #8709-8710, #9555-9556;
Denver: United States #9184-9185, #9204-9205;
Ashburn: United States #9922, #9931, #11640-11641;
Seattle: United States #8253-8254, #8266, #9948;
Chicago: United States #6319, #11519, #11527, #11530;
Atlanta: United States #9845, #11577, #11582, #11592.
NOTE: When searching for a specific server, you must add the "#" symbol before typing in the server number. So, for example, you would need to type “#8133” to access that particular server in Dallas.
- Perform a NordVPN DNS leak test. To ensure you’re properly connected to NordVPN, look for the “Connected to NordVPN” message. If you do not see it, there might be an issue with your connection, and you should try restarting your device and connecting to NordVPN again.
- Close the browser or the YouTube TV app and connect to a different server in the same country.
- Clear the browser’s cache or the streaming application’s cache.
- Turn off third-party web protection services that could interfere with your connection.
- Turn off DNS over HTTPS or Secure DNS.
- Pause NordVPN’s Threat Protection Pro™:
- Click the shield icon on the left side of the NordVPN app.
- Click “Overview” and pause every subfeature one by one to check which one could be causing the issue.
NOTE: Threat Protection Pro™ is not available on Linux or browser extensions. On these platforms, turn off the Threat Protection feature instead:
- On Linux-based devices, go to Settings, select “Security and privacy,” and toggle off Threat Protection.
- On the NordVPN browser extensions, click the extension, click "Threat Protection," and toggle it off.
Additional tips
- Try using a different device on the same network.
