Introduction
This article explains how to find your NordVPN service credentials in your Nord Account. Service credentials are required to authenticate your connection when you set up NordVPN manually on a router or through a third-party app, such as the OpenVPN app. They are different from your Nord Account email and password, which are only used to sign in to the native NordVPN app.
Before you start
- Make sure you have access to the email address used for your NordVPN services (a verification code will be sent there).
- Have your device or third-party app ready for manual setup.
Here's what to do
-
Log in to your
Nord Account
and click NordVPN.
- Scroll down to Advanced Settings and click Set up NordVPN manually.
-
Select the Service credentials tab.
- Click Verify email
- Check your email for a verification code, then enter it in the verification field.
-
Copy your Username and Password using the
Copy buttons on the right.
- Paste the service credentials into your router configuration or third-party app when prompted for a username and password.
Additional tips
- Use these service credentials only for manual connections and third-party apps. Continue using your regular Nord Account email and password for the native NordVPN app.
- Why service credentials? They exist to protect your account. Using dedicated credentials for third-party apps helps prevent enumeration attacks, where a hacker probes login responses to discover which usernames are registered. Service credentials make such discrepancies nearly impossible to detect, improving overall account security.
