How to set up NordVPN on Raspberry Pi with Kodi

  1. Download Kodi OpenVPN plugin on your Raspberry:
  2. Transfer the .zip file you have downloaded to your Kodi device.
  3. Once the .zip file is in the media centre, in Kodi go to System > Settings Add-ons. Click on Install from zip file.
  4. Use the Up and Down arrows to locate the folder where you have copied the .zip file and install it.
  5. Wait a few seconds until you see a notification in the bottom-right corner of the window indicating that the Kodi OpenVPN add-on is enabled.
  6. On your computer, create a new .txt file containing two lines. The first line is your username and the second is your password which you can find in your Nord Account dashboard under Service Credentials. For the sake of this tutorial, we have named the file nordvpnpass.txt.
  1. Download the .ovpn configuration file of the server you want to connect to, to your computer.

Follow the steps below to find the best server for your connection:

  1. Log in to your Nord Account and click NordVPN.


     
  2. Scroll down to Advanced Settings and click Set up NordVPN manually.


     
  3. Select the Server recommendation tab. The best server will be recommended for you according to your location.


     
  4. By pressing Advanced filters, you can customize the recommended servers by selecting the Server type and the Security protocol.



     

 In case you wish to select a specific server, follow these steps:

  1. Under Set up NordVPN manually, select OpenVPN configuration files.


     
  2. You can find the server you wish to connect to using the Search bar or by scrolling down. Then, you can download it by clicking Download UDP or Download TCP.


     
  3. When connecting to OpenVPN & IKEv2 manually, you'll need to use the Username and Password from the Service credential tab.


     
  1. Open the file you have downloaded and edit the auth-user-pass line to contain the location where you want to store the nordvpnpass.txt file on your Kodi. It should look like this:

    auth-user-pass /location/of/nordvpnpass.txt
     
  2. Move both files to your Raspberry Pi.
  3. Open the OpenVPN add-on you have previously installed and use it to locate the .ovpn configuration file you have moved to your media center to connect to VPN.
