Bypass VPN for specific websites

Updated

Typically, when you connect to NordVPN, you encrypt all traffic to and from your device. It's very secure, however at times you may wish to access some websites or IP addresses without the VPN, and may not wish to disconnect it.

You can follow one of the guides below to bypass the VPN for a specific website, server, or IP address:

Windows
  • 1. Open the Windows Command Prompt (cmd.exe) as administrator. The easiest way to do this is to search for "cmd" in the Windows Search, right-click the result and select Run as administrator.

  • 2. Inside the Command Prompt, type in:

    route print

Note down your main gateway, seen in the first line, in the "Gateway" column.

  • 3. Find out the IP address of the website, or domain, you wish to access without the use of a VPN.

In our example, we will use https://example.com as the website we want to visit.

Type in the following command into the command prompt, then note down the IP address:

    ping example.com

  • 4. Now we'll add the exception for that IP address. In your command prompt, enter this command: route add
Of course, replace the website IP and gateway IP with your IP addresses from the above steps:

    route add 93.184.216.34 192.168.3.1

    4.PNG

  • To delete the exception, you can use a similar command, just replace the add part with delete:

    route delete 93.184.216.34 192.168.3.1
