When starting our Windows NordVPN application, you may see this error:
This means that the application was unable to communicate with our main server. This may happen due to a variety of reasons, and there's a couple of things you can try:
- Restart the application
First of all, the error may be simply temporary. Try closing the app completely and start it again, or reboot your PC.
- Check your internet connection
While our application usually tells you if you do not have an internet connection, this error might happen due to a misconfigured connection - for example, the DNS servers you are using may block your access to VPN providers.
- Check your Antivirus/firewall
Most Firewalls do not block our application, however a few select may still have issues letting your connection go through - for example, AVG AntiVirus. You can manually configure your firewall to let the NordVPN application connect, or simply temporarily disable your firewall altogether.
- Try using a different network
If you're not sure if the three suggestions above are what's causing this error, you can simply take your computer to a friend, and try connecting from their network - if the connection is successful, you can be certain that it's due to your network configuration at home.
- Contact our Support Team
If the suggestions above do not help or you are trying to connect from a restricted country or network, our Support Team can help you solve the issue. You can contact our Support Team here: https://nordvpn.com/contact-us/ .
