Problem
You can’t watch the BBC (BBC America, BBC Australia, BBC Bermuda, BBC Select, BBC Sounds, or BBC iPlayer) while connected to NordVPN.
Common symptoms
- You get errors related to using a VPN.
- The streaming content doesn’t load.
Troubleshooting steps
NOTE: Using NordVPN to bypass any regulatory or judicial measures, or for any other illegal activities, is strictly prohibited and violates our Terms of Service. Make sure you use NordVPN in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, as well as the terms of any websites or services you access using NordVPN.
- Double-check if you are connected to the correct servers:
- BBC iPlayer (UK), BBC Sounds: Connect to any VPN server in the United Kingdom.
-
BBC America: Connect to any VPN server in the United States.
NOTE: You will not be able to watch BBC America via a TV if you are connected to a VPN server through the NordVPN TV app. Try setting up a router with NordVPN or sharing the connection from a Windows device instead. - BBC Australia: Connect to any NordVPN server in Australia.
- BBC Bermuda: Connect to any NordVPN server in Bermuda.
-
BBC Select: Connect to any NordVPN server in the United States or Canada.
- Perform a NordVPN DNS leak test. To ensure you’re properly connected to NordVPN, look for the “Connected to NordVPN” message. If you do not see it, there might be an issue with your connection, and you should try restarting your device and connecting to NordVPN again.
- Close the browser or the streaming app and connect to a different server in the same country.
-
Clear the browser’s cache or the streaming application’s cache.
NOTE: On iOS devices, the streaming application needs to be reinstalled instead of clearing the cache.
NOTE: On Android devices, follow these steps to clear the cache:
- Open the “Settings” application.
- Use the search button and type “Apps.”
- Look for the streaming app and tap on it.
- Tap “Force Stop” at the bottom right. When you get the warning dialog, tap “OK.”
- Scroll down to “Usage” and tap on “Storage.”
- Tap “Clear cache.”
- Turn off third-party web protection services that could interfere with your connection.
- Turn off DNS over HTTPS or Secure DNS.
- Pause NordVPN’s Next-gen antivirus "Real-time protection":
- Click the shield icon on the left side of the NordVPN app.
- Click “Pause” and select the desired time for Real-time protection to be paused
NOTE: Next-gen antivirus is not available on mobile, Linux, or browser extensions. On these platforms, follow these steps instead:- On the browser extension and iOS and Android devices, tap the shield icon on the NordVPN app and then tap the button "Turn off protection".
- On Linux devices and browser extensions, go to Settings, select “Security and privacy,” and toggle off Real-time protection.
Additional tips
- Try using a different device on the same network.
- Disable location services on your device.
