How to configure a Raspberry Pi?

You can set up NordVPN on Raspberry Pi device using OpenVPN protocol. Please note that of the commands may differ due to operating system the device is using.

Here is a tutorial how to connect via OpenVPN:

Tested on Raspbian Debian Weezy (version: Januray 2014; release date: 07/01/14)

  1. Run the terminal.
  2. Type sudo apt-get update to update the package list.
  3. Type sudo apt-get install openvpn to install OpenVPN.
  4. Navigate to OpenVPN directory by typing in: cd /etc/openvpn/ and then download our .ovpn configuration files: sudo wget
  5. Unzip the package. Type: sudo unzip
  6. Remove files which will be no longer used:
    sudo rm
  7. Enter the directory where the server configurations are. These folders are either ovpn_udp or ovpn_tcp: 
    cd /etc/openvpn/ovpn_udp/
    cd /etc/openvpn/ovpn_tcp/
  8. To see the list of all available servers, simply enter the following command and it will print full configuration file list.
    ls -al
  9. Choose a server which you would like to connect to.

    Server file that you choose  = For the sake of the tutorial, we have used, but you should connect to a server suggested to you at . You can find the server hostname right under the server title.
  10. Start OpenVPN with a chosen configuration by entering:
    • sudo openvpn [file name]
    • sudo openvpn
    • sudo openvpn /etc/openvpn/ovpn_udp/
  11. OpenVPN will ask you for credentials, so simply enter those in with your NordVPN account credentials.
  12. You will be connected to VPN.
  13. To disconnect from VPN press Ctrl+C on the keyboard. If you want to disconnect while using a different terminal window, you can use this command: sudo killall openvpn
