How to connect and disconnect from NordVPN's obfuscated servers

Introduction

In this article, you'll find guides detailing how to connect to NordVPN’s obfuscated servers and disconnect from them on all NordVPN apps.

NOTE: NordVPN has upgraded the Obfuscated Servers category to run on the NordWhisper protocol instead of OpenVPN. The Obfuscated category stays right where you expect it - it simply connects in a faster, more reliable way on restrictive networks.

Here's what to do

Windows/macOS

Open the NordVPN app.
In the server list, scroll until you see "Specialty servers."
To connect, click on "Obfuscated Servers."
NOTE: If you wish to be connected to a specific country, click on the three dots next to "Obfuscated Servers" and select the preferred country.
To disconnect, click the "Disconnect" icon next to "Pause".

Android/iOS

Open the NordVPN app.
Tap "Specialty Servers" on the home screen.
Tap "Obfuscated" to start connecting.
NOTE: If you wish to be connected to a specific country, tap on the three dots next to "Obfuscated" and select the preferred country.
To disconnect, click the "Disconnect" icon next to "Pause".

Android TV:

Open the NordVPN app.
Scroll down until you see "Specialty servers."
Select "Obfuscated" and connect.

Linux GUI/CLI

GUI:
1. Open the NordVPN app.
2. Click the "Settings" cogwheel.
3. Click "VPN connection."
4. Click "NordWhisper."
5. Click on any country to start connecting to a VPN server located there.
6. To disconnect, click "Pause connection" and choose "Disconnect."
CLI:

Open the Terminal (Ctrl + Alt + T shortcut).
Enable OpenVPN with the following command:

nordvpn set protocol nordwhisper

Type the following command to connect to a server:

nordvpn connect

nordvpn c

To disable the connection, use this command:

nordvpn disconnect
